Fleece jackets Fram Equipment

Sort:
by popularity by name

At one time, fleece jackets significantly changed the outdoor world. Before the advent of fleece in the 1980s, hikers and athletes commonly wore wool sweaters, which were heavy, quick to get wet, and slow to dry.

Light and warm fleece clothing quickly gained popularity, making outdoor activities much more comfortable. Now, even those far from the outdoors know what fleece is and have it in their wardrobe.

What are the advantages of fleece clothing?

  • Weight and insulation ratio: Fleece garments are lightweight and, at the same time, retain heat well.
  • Quick-drying: Fleece dries quickly and provides warmth even when wet.
  • Breathable: Fleece clothing allows moisture to evaporate from the body.
  • Comfortable: Soft, pleasant to the touch, and elastic.
  • Low-maintenance: Resistant to moths, inhibits the growth of microorganisms, and easy to wash.
  • Environmentally friendly: Does not contain animal-derived materials; some fleece types are made from recycled plastic.

How to choose a fleece jacket?

There is a wide variety of fleece clothing available now. Below, we'll discuss the main factors that will help you choose and buy the perfect fleece jacket for you.

  1. Usage

First and foremost, decide where you will wear your fleece. While fleece is versatile, there are different types suitable for various weather conditions and activities.

  • Lightweight (density 100 g/m³): Thin and quickdrying, suitable for running, cycling, rock climbing, trail running, skiing, and other high-intensity activities.
  • Mediumweight (200 g/m³): Provides good insulation and is versatile, often used as a second layer under a jacket during the transitional seasons or as outerwear in calm weather for camping, walks, skiing, etc.
  • Heavyweight (300 g/m³): Not suitable for active movement as they ventilate less, but great for winter camping, fishing, leisurely walks without a heavy backpack.
  1. Size

Choose a fleece that fits comfortably without restricting movement. However, an overly large fleece is not ideal, as the air layer between the fabric and the body will be too large and can cool down, risking discomfort.

  1. Cut

There are various fleece jacket models designed for different body shapes, including women's and men's styles.

  1. Zipper

Jackets with chest zippers are lighter and convenient as an inner layer when frequent removal and wearing are not expected. Full-zip jackets are practical for quick ventilation and easy removal. They make a good outer layer.

  1. Hood

Fleeces with hoods are often used as outer layers, but those with anatomically shaped hoods can be comfortably worn under a jacket. A hood replaces a hat or balaclava and prevents cold from penetrating the neck area. Hoodless fleeces are convenient as a second layer.

  1. Additional features

Consider details like thumbhole sleeves for hand protection, elastic cuffs or adjustable hems, and pockets for warming hands or carrying small items. Models without pockets save weight.
