If you decide to go for a really good hike, the Zakarpattia Tourist Trail is the longest marked hiking route in Ukraine. Its length is 398 km. The route passes through the main mountain ridges of the Ukrainian Carpathians: Borzhava, Vododil, Svydovets, and Chornohora; it partially goes through the Gorgany and Beskydy ranges. The trail goes through many villages and points: Velykyi Bereznyi (start) - Stuzhytsia - Uzhotskyi Pass - Bilasovytsia - Volovets - Mizhhirya - Kolochava - Ust-Chorna - Kvasy - Dilove (end), and several other villages along the route.

This trail gained new popularity during the quarantine of 2020-2021 (remember that?). Currently, hiking the ZTT is restricted as the route passes through border zones. Several Ukrainian travelers have hiked the ZTT solo, and even in winter. One of them, Alina Kosovska, wrote a book about her winter solo hike. It can be purchased on our website.

We should thank the "Carpathian Trails" Society for their thoroughness and consistency in maintaining the condition of the trails and marking. Also, many thanks to the volunteers who improve the paths in the Ukrainian Carpathians.

Would you hike the ZTT if you had such a long vacation from work?
