4,000 km of Autonomy: How Fram Backpacks Traveled from Switzerland to the North Cape
When Henrik and Tom came to us with the idea of walking from Switzerland all the way to the North Cape, we immediately knew — this is our scale. This isn’t just tourism. It’s a story of true autonomy, a total rejection of transport, thousands of kilometers of forests and fjords, and a daily test of pure endurance.
Last year, the guys completed this epic journey. For us as manufacturers, it was the ultimate "exam." On such a distance, every extra gram in your pack starts to feel like an extra kilogram after just a week.
Gear in Action
The expedition became the perfect testing ground for two different gear philosophies:
-
Henrik bet on lightness and practically "flew" with his ultralight Talung DCF 65L.
-
Tom, with 30 years of survival experience, pushed our flagship Osh DCF 85L to its limits, loaded for full self-sufficiency.
Why Weight Matters
For Fram Equipment, this project was an opportunity to prove a vital principle: a large expedition backpack doesn’t have to be a heavy, cumbersome "bag."
Thanks to the ultra-strong Dyneema® material, we managed to combine incredible lightness with functionality:
-
The Osh DCF 85L weighs only 1250 g, yet it flawlessly withstood weeks of full autonomy and the heavy loads Tom carried.
-
The Talung DCF 65L, carried by Henrik, proved just as powerful at a weight of only 975 g.
Both models feature a sophisticated anatomical back system and ergonomic pockets — comfort you only truly appreciate on ultra-long routes.
Details That Deliver
Beyond backpacks, we created custom membrane jackets for the guys featuring their expedition logo. When your path leads to the northernmost point of the continent, your gear shouldn't just be "okay." It must work perfectly: light, reliable, and thought out to the last stitch.
Henrik, Tom — you are incredible! Thank you for choosing Fram for this adventure. We still look through your photos from Nordkapp with inspiration and are already integrating this unique experience into our new developments.
