Second Wind: a story of strength that cannot be stopped
They did it.
Five Ukrainian servicemen with amputations and one female defender after severe injuries climbed to 5,895 meters — the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa.
This is how the Second Wind project was born. It is not just a documentary film or another expedition. It is a story about preparation, exhausting training, muscle pain, and psychological barriers that had to be overcome long before the first step was taken.
Second Wind is living proof that injury does not put life on pause. Projects like this change how society sees veterans with prosthetics — through respect and admiration for their strength.
Why this matters to Fram Equipment
For us, it was an honor to become the team’s technical partner. We didn’t just produce clothing — we designed and manufactured gear tailored to the specific needs of each participant. Altitude, cold, and constant physical strain leave no room for mistakes in construction or materials.
In the mountains, there are no small details. When you know that a jacket or backpack you made affects the comfort of someone overcoming such a journey, that responsibility is immense.
What’s next?
After the film and the ascent, Second Wind did not end. It grew into a real community. Today, its members continue to train together — on climbing walls, trails, rivers, and mountains. They have become a team that has no intention of stopping.
A separate part of our support for the Second Wind project is the collaborative merchandise we produce for the team. This is more than just apparel — it is a way to join the initiative and support its development.
50% of the proceeds from this merchandise are donated to the “Second Wind UA” foundation, which directs the funds to rehabilitation programs for veterans and active service members with prosthetic needs.
For us, this is another way to stand alongside the project in long-term work focused on recovery, sports, and a return to an active life. We believe that consistent, ongoing support matters just as much.
We remain by their side. We continue to create team apparel and support these initiatives — because it is people like this who inspire us to design better gear.
This is a story about moving forward, no matter what.
And we are truly proud to walk this path together.
